The Orange Dragon is a unique art gallery in that we are a community establishment created by local artists, maintained by local artists and staffed by volunteers. We are wholly owned by the Hastings Prescott Area Art Council (HPAAC) a 501c3 non-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting community arts in all forms.
Making The Dragon doubly unique is the fact that age, artistic qualifications, history, previous work, etc are not factors when exhibiting in the gallery and that the artists who exhibit thier work could be your friends or neighbors. We love to display the talent of up-and-coming artists.
We do not specialize in any one medium (except for special events) and have items for display that are as diverse as our community. Painting, sculpture, wood crafting, pottery, jewelry, glass and greeting cards are just a few of the categories our members offer. All items are handmade by the exhibiting artist and would be difficult to find anywhere else. Honestly if you are looking for that one-of-a-kind item for yourself or as a gift, The Orange Dragon is a great place to start looking.
Requirements for displaying work in The Orange Dragon are simply maintaining a membership with HPAAC, the filling out of a few forms and the choice of commission rate. The gallery deducts 25% of an artists sales if they volunteer at the gallery for 6 hours a month, 45% if they do not. You may change your commision rate decision later.
When you join HPAAC send us an email at email@example.com telling us of your intent to exhibit. Also mention in the email what choice of commission rate you make so we may get the correct forms ready for you and/or a schedule setup to get you trained in gallery operations. Members under the age of 18 who desire to maintain the 25% commission rate must have a parent or guardian with them at all times while in charge of the gallery.
Orange Dragon does reserve the right to refuse work based on criteria such as practicality, appropriateness, lack-of-quality and more. If there are any questions regarding possible refusal please ask a member of the Gallery Advisory Committee (the wierd looking people putting out refreshments at gallery functions) or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
